How We Calculate Solar Costs
Our state-by-state solar cost estimates are based on average installation prices per watt, typical residential system sizes (7.5 kW), local utility rates, available state and federal incentives, and average peak sun hours. Actual costs vary based on your roof, installer, equipment choices, and local permitting fees. We recommend getting at least 3 quotes from local installers for the most accurate pricing.
Federal Solar Tax Credit (2026)
The federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) allows homeowners to deduct 30% of their solar installation cost from their federal taxes. This applies to the full cost of the system, including equipment and labor. The 30% rate is available through 2032, after which it steps down to 26% in 2033 and 22% in 2034.
